Mark Ellisman, Ph.D.

Dr. Mark Ellisman is Professor of Neurosciences and Bioengineering at UC San Diego. After earning a Ph.D. in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology from the University of Colorado, he joined UC San Diego in 1977. Ellisman established the National Center for Microscopy and Imaging Research (NCMIR) in 1988 for the purpose of understanding of the structure and function of the nervous system by developing 3D light and electron microscopy methodologies. Since 1996, he has served as the founding director of UC San Diego's Center for Research in Biological Systems (CRBS).

Maryann Martone, Ph.D.

Dr. Maryann Martone is Professor-in-Residence in the Department of Neurosciences and Co-Director of the National Center for Microscopy and Imaging Research (NCMIR) at UC San Diego. Following a B.A. in Psychobiology from Wellesley College in 1982, a doctorate in neurosciences from UC San Diego in 1990, and a post-doc at NCMIR, she joined the department of neurosciences at UC San Diego in 1993. Martone oversees programs in biological specimen development and bioinformatics. She has led the development of the Cell Centered Database (CCDB), one of the first Internet databases for cell-level structural data. She is the Principal Investigator of the Neuroscience Information Framework (NIF), an initiative of the NIH Blueprint for Neuroscience Research that advances neuroscience research by enabling discovery and access to public research data and tools worldwide through an open source, networked environment.

Steve Peltier, M.S.

Steven Peltier is the executive director of both the Center for Research in Biological Systems (CRBS) and the National Center for Microscopy and Imaging Research (NCMIR) at UC San Diego. He is an interdisciplinary engineer with interests spanning instrumentation design and development, automation and control software development, distributed computing, and project management. Reporting to the director, he oversees the general management of all research resources.

Stephen Larson, M.S.

Stephen Larson is currently a Ph.D candidate in UC San Diego's Neurosciences program. He earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in computer science at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Please view his additional information and other projects at http://slars0n.com.
